📍 Capturing Big Spaces from the Sky – It’s All About the Angles

Today’s photo is of a stunning coastal development - a former retirement home that’s been beautifully converted into modern apartments, right near the prestigious Royal Porthcawl Golf Club. The setting couldn’t be better, with sea views, fresh air, and some of South Wales’ finest architecture all in one place.
Larger properties like this always present a bit of a challenge from a drone photography perspective. In the UK, we’re limited to a legal maximum altitude of 120 metres (400ft), which sounds like plenty - until you're trying to frame a sprawling building with surrounding landscape, and still keep the composition tight and professional.
But as with most things in photography, it’s less about the height and more about the
Finding the right elevation, tilt, and distance is what brings the image together. Sometimes it means flying out and shooting back toward the subject rather than directly overhead. Other times, it’s about using foreground or natural framing to give scale without losing the detail.
This shoot was a good reminder that even with restrictions, there’s a lot of room to get creative. And when the weather lines up like it did today, the results speak for themselves.
